Smoke Ribbons

Soft white ribbons swirling,

Running with the cold steady wind

As orange embers fade

Piling mountains of old grey ash.


Lips pull silky white inside

Gentle dragons releasing;

Deep breaths expand lungs

Against brittle bones

She calls to the smoke,

Welcoming it inside;

The familiar burn stings

fragile walls of her throat.
